Loretta Genelle (Johnson) Thompson, 75, of Decatur, IL passed away on Sunday (April 17, 2011) in her home after a brave fight with a long illness.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday (April 23, 2011) at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com.

Loretta was born on March 13, 1936 in Clay County, IL, the daughter of Richard and Louise Johnson. Loretta was a homemaker, but her interests and concerns centered on the care and needs of her family. She enjoyed singing and traveled across the country performing on stage and on the KXLA radio show in Pasadena, CA. Loretta loved to go mushroom hunting, fishing, and being out in her yard tending to it and her birds, especially the hummingbirds she enjoyed so much. Loretta married Loren L. Thompson on March 4, 1957 and had twin daughters, Toni and Joni and a son Tracy Lynn.

She leaves behind her beloved husband of 54 years: Loren Thompson of Decatur, IL; twin daughters: Toni Bakunas and Joni (Matt) Long both of Decatur, IL; brothers: Dick (Sherry) Johnson of Bethany, IL, Monte Joe Johnson of Mt. Zion, IL, Benny (Kay) Johnson, Troy (Jaime) Johnson both of Louisville, IL.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Tom and Ronald Johnson, son: Tracy Lynn Thompson and granddaughter: Diana (Paige) Stovall.

The family would like to thank hospice nurse Diane Cavanaugh for all of her care and support.

Loretta touched many lives and hearts and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Thanks to all the Thompson family for sharing your mother, sisiter, and wife with me.  There were alot of times when I considered  her  like a mother to myself. I will miss her like the rest of you, she was one of the kindest  people I ever met.  God Bless all of you!!

It hs been many years since I last saw Loretta, but what I so remember aboout her was her beautiful and contagious smile. When I would visit your home, she always made me feel like one of the family and I always left feeling a little more loved. She was a wonderful and beautiful lady. God bless you all.
